Monotony is not only boring – its dangerous.
Would you be happy if you were restritcted to the same food in the same amount every day for the rest of your life?
Chemical analysis of ingredients on pet food labels is meaningless (no matter what their origins) because all commercial pet foods are cooked – cooked foods being deficient by definition.
The key word is variety.
As a guideline for adult dogs feed two meals per day (nothing in-between meals).
Concentrate carbohydrates (such as oats) in the morning.
Meat and vegetables in the evening.
Quantities depend on varying factors – the dogs breed, size, metabolism, exercise and work load (or even the weather) – working Alaskan sled dogs need thousands of calories a day, while warm-weather couch potatoes need hardly any.
Large dogs need more, small dogs less.
General rule of thumb – feed a daily ration of 2-3 % of the dogs body weight in meat & bones (ie: 25kg dog = 500-750grams meat/bones)
Minced/pureed raw vegetables provide adequate roughage.
Constipation should never be a problem on a raw diet.
Important - dogs must get regular exercise & always have clean water available.
